CNC Setter Job in Wednesbury

Bespoke Career Solutions is recruiting an experienced CNC Setter for a permanent position with an established precision engineering and manufacturing company in Wednesbury.

The role will involve setting and operating Star sliding-head CNC lathes to manufacture precision components. You will be responsible for preparing machines for production, completing tool changes, adjusting offsets and checking finished components against engineering drawings.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced CNC Setter looking for secure, permanent employment within a busy engineering environment. Applicants must have previous experience setting CNC lathes. Experience with Star sliding-head machines is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Setting and operating Star sliding-head CNC lathes
• Preparing machines for production runs and completing changeovers
• Loading and proving existing CNC programs
• Selecting and fitting the correct cutting tools
• Setting tool positions, work offsets and machine parameters
• Setting bar feeds and checking material is loaded correctly
• Producing first-off components for inspection and approval
• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications
• Using verniers, micrometers, thread gauges and other precision measuring equipment
• Checking components throughout production to maintain dimensional accuracy
• Adjusting tool offsets to compensate for wear and maintain tolerances
• Monitoring machine performance during production runs
• Identifying and resolving tooling, setting and machining problems
• Changing worn or damaged cutting tools when required
• Ensuring finished components meet the required quality standards
• Recording inspection results and completing production paperwork accurately
• Working to production schedules and agreed output targets
• Reducing machine downtime, material waste and rejected components
• Maintaining a clean, organised and safe working area
• Following company quality, health and safety procedures

Skills and Experience Required

• Previous experience setting CNC lathes is essential
• Experience working with Star sliding-head CNC lathes would be highly advantageous
• A good understanding of sliding-head or fixed-head CNC turning processes
• Ability to set machines independently for production
• Confidence completing tool changes and adjusting offsets
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings
• Experience using precision measuring and inspection equipment
• Good understanding of cutting tools, speeds, feeds and machining tolerances
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
• Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing quality components
• Ability to work effectively as part of an engineering team
• Willingness to work rotating double-day shifts

What Are Double-Day Shifts?

This position operates on a rotating double-day shift pattern. You will alternate between an early shift and a later shift. Full shift times will be confirmed during the recruitment process.
